Panthers drop two on senior night

MT. PLEASANT — The Mt. Pleasant softball team fell in a nonconfere doubleheader against No. 13 (2A) Wilton on Friday night. The Panthers dropped Game 1, 7-3, and lost Game 2, 8-0.

The Panthers traded runs with the Beavers through five innings in Game 1, and were tied 3-3. Wilton put up four runs in the sixth to run away with the game.

In Game 2, the Beavers and Panthers were scoreless through four, but Wilton once again struck late, scoring two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and four int he seventh. Mt. Pleasant collected just two hits in the second game after having seven knocks in Game 1.

Mt. Pleasant honored their four seniors before the game; Sydni Coleman, Samantha Broeker, Hannah Newman and Lexie Magnani. Batting average wise, four players are four of the top five hitters on the Mt. Pleasant squad, and Coleman and Newman have accounted for the vast majority of innings pitched this season.
