Mt. Pleasant hoops splits with Central Lee

DONNELLSON — The Mt. Pleasant basketball teams went 1-1 in their road trip to Central Lee on Saturday. The boys’ team rolled 60-33, but the girls fell 71-45.

The boys trailed 16-15 after the first quarter but turned it on after the opening eight minutes. The Panthers took a 29-20 leads into halftime and led 45-30 after three quarters.

Dewon Trent scored 24 points to lead the Panthers to victory. Dylon Hagans scored 11, and Payton Hagans scored 10 to give the Panthers three double-digit scorers.

Brevin Wilson finished the night with six points. Jack Johnson had three. Chase Williamson and Cooper Pullis scored two apiece. Tyson Sysouchanh and Carter Amos tallied one apiece.

The Panther girls struggled to slow down an unrelenting Cnetral Lee offense. The Hawks led 18-7 after one quarter, 36-24 at halftime and 58-35 after three quarters.

Tristian Shull led Mt. Pleasant with 16 points. Andrea Lopreato put up 14. Central Lee star Mya Merschmann finished the game with 30 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks.

The Mt. Pleasant boys moved to 9-6 overall with the win. The girls fell to 8-7.

Both Panther teams will return to Southeast Conference play on Friday night against Keokuk. The boys will be at home with the girls traveling south.
