PACKWOOD — Brady Millikin posted a double-double for Pekin as it opened its Class 2A postseason with a home win over Mediapolis Thursday, 57-36.
The Panthers, who have a record of 17-2, struggled against the visitors deliberate style and trailed Mediapolis (8-14) 10-8 after the first quarter, 21-19 at halftime and finally gained a 1-point lead by the end of the third quarter. The Panthers did not give up a single point in the fourth quarter and scored 20.
Millikin poured in 20 points and pounded the glass for 10 rebounds for the Panthers. He tallied four assists and three steals as well. Brayden Sobaski scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds while Chandler Stull scored eight points.
Pekin faces West Burlington Tuesday in Ottumwa for the District 10 title. The winner will play the Camanche and Mid-Prairie winner Saturday at Muscatine for a berth in the state tournament.
