Names released in three-vehicle crash in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD — The Iowa State Patrol has released the names of the individuals involved in a three-car accident Thursday, Oct. 24 in Fairfield.

At 12:23 p.m. that day, Robert Gotshall, 51, of Fairfield, was traveling east on East Burlington Avenue. Another vehicle, driven by 17-year-old Estrella Oropeza of Fairfield, was stopped in the eastbound lane on East Burlington, waiting to turn left into Parkview Care Center.

According to the report, Gotshall failed to notice Oropeza’s vehicle, and swerved to miss it as he approached it, clipping the rear driver’s side corner. He then crossed the centerline into the oncoming lane, where he struck a vehicle head-on driven by John Joseph Freshwater, 52, of Albia.

Gotshall was taken by Medforce helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Oropeza was transported by private vehicle to the Jefferson County Health Center. Freshwater reported pain from the crash, but did not seek medical attention.
