FAIRFIELD — Though the normal Memorial Day ceremony in Central Park was canceled, Fairfield residents had the opportunity to honor the fallen remotely Monday through a televised Memorial Day service from the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

The event was co-sponsored by Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, Fairfield Media Center and Werner Elmker Audio-Visual Studio. The ceremony was live streamed Monday morning from the stage of the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts. It featured an introduction from Mayor Connie Boyer, readings by Fred Hucke and Jan Hunerdosse, taps by Hucke as well, remarks from Pastor John Wilbur of the Fairfield Friends Church and retired Sgt. 1st Class Jim Salts, the Star Spangled Banner courtesy of Emily Phippen and a video of Scott Vaughan and other volunteers putting up flags in Central Park.
