FAIRFIELD – The south side of the Fairfield High School is getting a makeover this summer.

A couple of construction projects are underway just outside the building. One is the addition of the Trojan Honor Courtyard south of the auditorium on the west edge of the building. The other is occurring near the east side of the building, just west of the south doors that lead to the gymnasium.

The area was dug up earlier this month to replace a water main into the building. Construction required digging up the sidewalk south of the building. School district workers took the opportunity to remove several pieces of the sidewalk that had become a tripping hazard because the sidewalk blocks were not level with each other, creating a lip. That will be fixed when the new sidewalk is poured. As of Monday, the sidewalk is closed and has an orange fence around it. That sidewalk receives heavy usage during volleyball and basketball games, when fans walk on it on their way from the parking lot to the gymnasium.
