Matt Russell to speak on 'Embracing Abundance in a world of scarcity'

PARNELL — Just Peace Outreach Group (J-POG), is pleased to welcome Matt Russell this Sunday evening, February 16, 2020. Russell will talk on “Embracing Abundance in a World of Scarcity” at West Union Mennonite Church, Parnell, Iowa.

Russell is the Executive Director of Iowa Interfaith Power and Light (IPL), an organization seeking to empower people of faith and conscience to take bold and just action on climate change. IPL, founded in 2006, is part of the national Interfaith Power & Light movement that works to help the religious community to become leaders who enable changes in response to climate change. Iowa IPL envisions a stable climate where humans live in right and just relationship, interconnected with a healthy, thriving, natural world.

Russell earned a B.A. from Loras College in Dubuque and an M.S. in Rural Sociology from Iowa State University. Russell has spent his career working in nonprofits and advocating for social justice. He spent the first 11 years training for and working in ministry and the last 16 years doing secular work focused primarily on economic and environmental sustainability. Matt has led Iowa IPL since April 2018.

Russell is a fifth generation Iowa farmer. He and Patrick Standley operate Coyote Run Farm, a 110-acre farm in rural Lacona. The farm raises fresh produce, heirloom tomato plants, and grass-finished beef.

Join J-POG on Sunday evening, February 16, 2020, as Russell shares his views on climate advocacy from a faith perspective at West Union Mennonite Church, 3253 305th Street, Parnell, Iowa. Come at 6 p.m. for informal discussion and a finger foods potluck (please bring your own table service). Russell’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Time for questions will follow.
