Dani Laughlin had a hit in all four of her plate appearances to highlight local softball action Wednesday.

Huskies target Bullettes

MEDIAPOLIS — Highland (8-6) secured a North win at Mediapolis (3-11), 10-6.

Dani Laughlin went 4-for-4 to lead the Huskies at the plate. Teammate Mackinze Hora was 3-for-5 with a double while Sarah Burton was 3-for-4 with a double. Jenna Sands went 2-for-3.

Grace Batchellor threw 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts, two walks, nine hits and five runs, four of which were earned. Jessica Karus tossed 2 2/3 innings with a hit, an unearned run and seven strikeouts.

Six-run first lifts Cardinal

ELDON — The Cardinal softball team was in a bit of trouble early on after giving up two to Moravia in the first inning, but a six-run first of its own propelled the Comets to an 8-3 nonconference victory.

Cardinal added two more insurance runs in the fourth inning and only allowed one sixth-inning run after Moravia’s first two scores.

Alexia McClure went 2-for-3 with two singles on the night. Caitlyn Reber, Maddie Cloke, Rachel Lewman, Riley Bears, Ella Thompson and Kinsey Hissem all had RBIs.

Ava Ferrell picked up the win, giving up two earned runs over two innings. Kassidy Verrips gave up one earned run over five innings, while striking out six.

No. 14 W-MU falls in extras

WAPELLO — The 14th-ranked (1A) Winfield-Mt. Union softball team couldn’t squeak a run through in their final regular season game at Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division foe Wapello. The Wolves fell 1-0 on an eighth-inning walk-off.

Junior pitcher Madie Anderson gave up just three hits and two walks on the night. She also hit one batter. Wapello’s lone run was unearned.

W-MU finished the night with three hits, all singles. Anderson, Carlee Sloan and Jobey Malone each finished with a knock.

Mid-Prairie falls at Anamosa

ANAMOSA — The Golden Hawks (1-10) tied the game at 3-3 in the second inning but couldn’t score again in this River Valley Conference road loss to the Blue Raiders (11-1), 7-3.

Bears devour Eagles

KEOTA — BGM (3-8) won this South Iowa Cedar League game 18-0 at Keota (0-11).
